The Endocrinology and Bariatric Surgery Department is located on the 3rd floor where there are 28 inpatient hospital beds shared with the General Surgery Department with which there is a strong collaboration both in terms of medical services as well as regarding medical research.
Department ServicesThe Endocrinology and Bariatric Surgery Operational Unit is a highly specialized section that has special interest in minimally invasive surgical techniques, regarding surgery treatments of endocrine gland diseases (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands) in addition to Severe Obesity disorders. The participation in a multidisciplinary Obesity Course, for obese patients, is planned according to national and international Guidelines with the involvement of nutritionists, psychologists, radiologists, endoscopists, pneumologists, cardiologists, laboratory analysis and anatomic pathologists.
Treated Diseases and Services
- Treatment of thyroid and parathyroid surgical diseases through a minimally invasive and video-assisted technique including histological tests, intraoperative monitoring of the functionality of the recurrent laryngeal nerve and intraoperative dosage of the Parathormone
- Laparoscopic Surgery of adrenal diseases (through both intraperitoneal and posterior extraperitoneal access) and endocrine tumors in the pancreas and in the gastrointestinal tract
- Laparoscopic Surgery of Severe Obesity through Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, single anastomosis gastric bypass (mini-gastric bypass), Single-Anastomosis Duodenal-Ileal bypass with Sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S)
- Revision Surgery to treat bariatric surgery failures and long term complications: sleeve gastrectomy revision for failure and/or reflux, gastric banding revision, revision and/or reconstruction of Bilio-Pancreatic Diversion (BPD)
