The MATER ART (Advanced Radiation Therapy) Radiation Oncology Center uses the most advanced radiation therapy technologies with the goal of offering the most appropriate cancer treatment for the individual patient, following the new frontiers of personalized precision medicine.
Mission and VisionMATER ART was created with the mission of offering state-of-the-art treatments for oncological pathologies, integrating medical therapies and radiotherapy treatment. The center offers patients a multidisciplinary team and some of the most advanced technologies in the field of Radiation Oncology, in continuous renewal, thanks to the collaboration with the centers of the ART network.

Radiation treatment aims to allow organ preservation, distributing the dose on the target and sparing healthy tissues. The technologies present in the MATER ART allow to combine the most accurate CT and MRI radiodiagnostic images with the linear accelerator, allowing to monitor daily the real position of the target and to perform an extremely accurate and personalized radiotherapy, fully representing the concept of IGRT (image guided radiotherapy). The technological instruments active at MATER ART allow high standards of service, with the customization of time and mode of treatment of the patient. To complete the therapeutic offer of the MATER ART concur the possibility of providing supportive therapies and concomitant systemic treatments, in Day Hospital or using wards for inpatient delivery.
External Beam RadiotherapyThis is a technique that directs radiation produced by equipment that rotates around the patient lying on a bed onto the tumor.Treatment techniques offered at MATER ART include:Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) Volumetric Dynamic Radiotherapy (VMAT) Stereotactic Radiotherapy/Brain and Extracerebral Radiosurgery (Stereotactic RadioTherapy SRT, Stereotactic RadioSurgery SRS, Stereo Body RadioTherapy SBRT) Resonance Guided Radiation Therapy (MRgRT Magnetic Resonance Guided Radiation Therapy)The MATER ART has two machines of the latest generation for External Beam Treatment:Nr. 1 MRIdian (ViewRay®) An equipment with Magnetic Resonance that represents today the maximum frontier of technological advancement in this field. No. 1 Ethos (Varian®) The first accelerator with implementation of artificial intelligence systems. MATER ART is the first center in Italy to be able to make it available to its patients. INTERVENTISTIC and CONTACT radiotherapyThe therapeutic offer of MATER ART will be completed by the presence of an Interventional Radiotherapy unit.Interventional Radiotherapy is a technique that allows the irradiation of tumors through the placement of small radioactive sources inside or in contact with the disease by means of interventional procedures. Interventional Radiation Therapy treatments use technologies that allow the modulation of radiation intensity point by point through the use of Image-guided and Intensity Modulated techniques and facilitate the delivery of high doses to the tumor while sparing healthy organs.The unit includes a dedicated bunker, interventional room. The Bravos™ Varian therapy system is a modern afterloading system capable of delivering high doses to target regions with minimal impact on surrounding healthy tissue.Interventional Radiation Therapy treatments are performed using the High Dose Rate (HDR) technique, either exclusively or in combination with external beam radiation therapy. The main neoplasms that can be treated by Interventional Radiation Therapy are: tumors of the head and neck, esophagus, skin, biliary tract, sarcomas, prostate, anus, uterus, vagina, perineum and rectum.
